Brian Gorman

—— Founder, SongADE.com

I started piano lessons when I was 9 years old. I started playing the drums in my first band at 13. I taught myself how to play guitar at 14 by playing Pearl Jam’s Ten album by ear. I produced and recorded my first album that same year.

In high school, guitar became my obsession and my band wrote songs, recorded an album, built a website on IUMA.com, and did a college tour. I went to college, wrote music for orchestras and ensembles, earned a B.A. in Music Theory & Composition, and graduated with honors.

After college, I taught private lessons and became a music teacher. I toured the country in a new band, played solo gigs, and managed local musicians. I released an album on Spotify.

Most recently, I established a career in digital marketing and started this blog to review music products and teach people the best lessons I’ve learned over a lifetime of study, practice, and performance.

Blasts From The Past

My History In Music

My Timeline

  • 1984 – 1989: Exposed to 80s hair bands, prog rock, metal, and other essential music by my older brothers through walkmen and boom boxes.
  • 1989 – 1993: Studied piano under a great teacher who taught a mix of classical, movie music, and pop.
  • 1993 – 1996: Snuck into the high school band room and practiced on the drum set. Studied drums under Alec Antobenedetto. Started my first band, Black Tide. Played shows and recorded albums until the band broke up.
  • 1996 – 1997: Switched to guitar and started a new band called Dyme. Played bigger shows, recorded another album, and broke up (as young bands do). Studied classical guitar at the New England Conservatory in Boston.
  • 1998 – 2003: Played in multiple towns, venues, and colleges with Blindside as guitarist and singer. After the music history professor at Curry College advised me to major in music, I did exactly that and ended up earning my Bachelor of Arts in Music Theory & Composition with honors from Westfield State College (now Westfield State University).
  • 2003 – 2007: Taught private music lessons at The Music Nook in Milford, MA (now Music & Arts).
  • 2007 – 2013: Moved to North Carolina and taught music to grades K-8 at The Franciscan School in Raleigh. Started the school’s first middle school pep band.
  • 2013 – 2014: Taught guitar at Family Piano Academy in Raleigh, NC. Managed musician Sean Magee, which involved accompaniment on guitar and vocals for live shows, recording in the studio, creating Youtube videos, and helping him develop a local following.
  • 2020: Released “Music for Fish” on Spotify, an album of acoustic focus music to help co-workers with their productivity and enjoyment of the work day.
